Ancien chaudronnier des usines Dassault, Michel-Jack Chasseuil est passionné du vin et aimerait offrir sa fabuleuse collection à l’État, pour pouvoir garder en France ces crus exceptionnels. Un milliardaire russe lui a déjà fait une proposition de plus de 30 millions d’euros pour acquérir la collection du niortais, mais celui ci a refusé l’offre, préférant que ces vins chargés d’histoire puisse être maintenu sur le sol français, et pourquoi pas une place dans un musée de choix : le Louvre par exemple !
Michel-Jack Chasseuil a passé quarante ans de son existence à constituer une collection de 35 000 bouteilles de vin et 3 000 de spiritueux, et il souligne toutefois qu’il était plus facile de s’offrir des grands crus il y a plusieurs dizaine d’années, les spéculations et la concurrence des millionnaires étrangers (Japon, Chine, Russie notamment) ne faisait pas flamber les prix comme aujourd’hui.
En 2012, la Fondation Chasseuil verra le jour, elle permettra de faire appel à des mécènes pour financer le futur bâtiment qui abritera ces milliers de bouteilles, tout en réglant les questions de succession.
Il a également publié un ouvrage : « Les 100 bouteilles extraordinaires de la plus belle cave du monde« traduit en sept langues dont le chinois.
